Following these simple candle care tips will help you enjoy the best fragrance throw, maximize burn time, and keep your candle performing beautifully from the first light to the last.
First Burn Matters
Your first burn sets the stage for every burn that follows. Allow the wax to melt completely across the surface of the candle before extinguishing it—typically 2 to 3 hours. This helps prevent tunneling and promotes an even burn throughout the life of your candle.
Wick Care
- Trim the wick to ¼ inch before every burn.
- A properly trimmed wick creates a cleaner flame, reduces soot, and helps your candle burn more evenly.
- If the flame becomes too tall or begins to flicker, extinguish the candle, trim the wick, and relight once cooled.
Burn Time & Safety
- Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours at a time.
- Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Keep candles away from drafts, ceiling fans, pets, children, curtains, and other flammable materials.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Extinguishing Your Candle
For the cleanest experience, extinguish your candle with a candle snuffer. You may also gently dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it again before the wax cools. This minimizes smoke and helps preserve your fragrance.
Knowing When to Stop Burning
When approximately ½ inch of wax remains in the bottom of the jar, discontinue use. Burning beyond this point may cause the vessel to overheat.
Give Your Jar a Second Life
After your candle has completely cooled, remove the remaining wax and wash the vessel with warm, soapy water. Our amber jars make beautiful storage containers for cotton balls, office supplies, dried flowers, kitchen herbs, or small keepsakes.
