Discover Autumn Laurel | Appalachian Candles Hand-Poured in Virginia's Blue Ridge

You found us. Here is everything you need to know.

Autumn Laurel is a small-batch candle and home fragrance brand hand-poured in Christiansburg, Virginia — in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, inside the Appalachian Regional Commission's service region, in a community we chose and keep choosing. We make candles, wax melts, room and linen sprays, foaming hand soaps, and home goods rooted in Appalachian heritage, colonial Virginia history, and the belief that simple rituals — lighting a candle at dusk, drawing a bath, tending a home — are worth doing with intention and care.

We are not a mass-market brand. We are not trying to be. Every candle we pour is made by hand, in small batches, with ingredients chosen for quality rather than cost. If you are here, you are probably the kind of person that matters to.

Our Story

Autumn Laurel began as a return — not just to a place, but to a way of living. Our founder's lineage runs deep in Virginia, from colonial roots along the Tidewater to the mountain hollows of Appalachia. That heritage — colonial grace meeting mountain grit — is the soul of everything we make. Every scent tells a story. Every story carries a memory. Every memory lights the way home.

What We Make

Our collections span the full sweep of Appalachian and Virginia heritage — from the earthy, grounded scents of our Appalachian Core collection to the colonial elegance of our Virginia collection, the folklore and mountain mythology of our Folklore collection, and the seasonal rhythms that shape life in the Blue Ridge. We also make wax melts, room and linen sprays, foaming hand soaps, whipped sugar scrubs, reed diffusers, and a growing line of home goods.

Why Apricot Coconut Wax

Every Autumn Laurel candle is poured in apricot coconut wax — a premium, predominantly plant-based blend that burns slower, scents richer, and looks more beautiful than soy. It is one of the most expensive waxes on the market. We use it anyway, because the difference it makes is not subtle. We will also tell you honestly everything that is in it — including what most candle brands skip over.

Candles Made in Appalachia

Not every candle labeled Appalachian belongs to this region. Ours does. We are hand-poured in Christiansburg, Virginia — Montgomery County, inside the Blue Ridge, inside the Appalachian Regional Commission's service area. The mountains here are not an aesthetic. They are our address.

Heart & Holler — Our Lifestyle Journal

Heart & Holler is where the candles stop being products and start being invitations. It is our lifestyle and self-care journal — rooted in Appalachian tradition, seasonal living, slow home rituals, and the belief that caring for yourself is an act of coming home. Stories, guides, The Hearth Letter newsletter, and Holler Goods all live here.

Rooted & Giving Back — Our Community

Autumn Laurel was built inside a community and we take that seriously. We give 5% of net profits to Huddle Up Moms, a Southwest Virginia nonprofit supporting mothers and families. We are a vendor at Junction 245 in Buena Vista. We are actively involved with The Advancement Foundation. And we champion the work of the Appalachian Regional Commission in the 25 Virginia counties they serve — including ours.

What Makes Autumn Laurel Different

There are a lot of candle brands. Here is what we believe sets Autumn Laurel apart — not as marketing, but as the actual decisions that shape every pour:

  • Apricot coconut wax — not soy, not paraffin-heavy blends. A premium ingredient chosen for performance and honesty.
  • Genuine Appalachian roots — poured in Christiansburg, Virginia, by a founder whose family lineage in this region spans generations and whose brand identity was not borrowed from a map.
  • Small batch, always — we do not scale by sacrificing quality. Every candle is hand-poured with attention.
  • Community investment — 5% of net profits to Huddle Up Moms, active involvement with The Advancement Foundation, a vendor presence at Junction 245.
  • Honest storytelling — we tell you what is in our wax, where we pour it, who inspires it, and why it matters. No vague "natural blend" language. No borrowed Appalachian aesthetic without the roots to back it up.
